EMBARK

Grades PRE K3 through 5th Grade

LET'S EXPLORE THE CATHOLIC FAITH

The youngest of the children, from three-year-old in pre-k to the kindergarteners, EXPLORE God's history and the traditions of our Church.  We EMBARK on an Exploration of our Catholic faith with storytelling, puppets, music, crafts, and food.  We introduce them to basic prayers and provide families with tools, so hey can continue discussions.  This is the perfect age, so the children experience the joy and the beauty of God's creation and begin answering their many questions.

WE ENCOUNTER CHRIST TOGETHER

The students from first to fifth grade Encounter our Lord Resurrected through the sacraments, prayer and the presence of Christ in the word.  In the EMBARK sessions, the students build friendship, refine their knowledge to experience Christ and make the Catholic faith their own.  Through the discussions, reading the Scriptures, exploring the signs and symbols, crafts, fun and games, the grow as young disciples.  The children also experience the Lord in the unique, sacraments experiences of Reconciliation and the Eucharist.  This is the season to build on knowledge through intentional activities to ENCOUNTER Christ and bring Him to everyday life.

EMBARK HOME STUDY

The home study program is led mainly by parents in the home with staff support.  You will receive the books, online resources, and a schedule to follow and monthly follow-up and response forms. NEW for this 2020-2021 year, to make this more doable for families in the Covid -19 pandemic, Embark staff will offer a monthly video call to support parents with sharing faith at home.

INCLEMENT WEATHER INFORMATION

In the event of inclement weather, EMBARK will cancel classes based on Cobb County school closings.  Also, we post on WSB Channel 2-Storm Watch when we are closed.  However, please always do what is best for your family during inclement weather.

SACRAMENT INFORMATION

Generally, sacramental preparation is a two year program.  We work to support the parents or guardians of children seeking to receive a sacrament.  The path your child take will be determined, in part, by their age, their background in catechesis, and the sacrament they have previously received.  We will help determine the kind of preparation is needed.

FIRST RECONCILIATION & FIRST COMMUNION

Preparation for these sacraments generally begins in first grade where children learn their basic prayers, stories from the Scriptures, and encounter the love of Christ.  They will complete their formation as second graders where they learn more sacrament specific lessons.  Students receive their First Reconciliation in late January/early February and their First Communion in late April/early May.

SACRAMENTS AT NON-TRADITIONAL AGES

If you have a child who IS baptized but did not receive their other sacraments during the grades listed above, please contact Yvonne Waits in the PSR office.  We will work with your family to develop an appropriate program of catechesis so your child can be fully prepared to receive the sacraments.

RCIA ADAPTED FOR CHILDREN

If your child is not yet baptized, the child will be part of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) Adapted for Children.  This is also a two year process.  During these two years there are a series of rites that mark the stages of formation in which once received in becoming a Catholic Christian.  The Saint Joseph parish community supports and prays for you along the way.  Details and dates of these events will be released toward the beginning of the year.
